Training Course "Hydrometeorological Monitoring Network and Geodata Bases"

On December 14 -16, 2010, GFZ and CAIAG are inviting experts on geodata management to participate in the training course on “Hydrometeorological Monitoring Network and Geodata Bases”. The training will give an introduction to the sensor network and monitoring station concept as well as the data processing software architecture developed within the CAWa project

Hydrometeorological Data Collection and Processing

Water resources management incl. assessment and forecast of disposability strongly rely on the availability of hydrological and hydrometeorological data. This course focuses on aspects of data collection (sensor systems), data processing (hard & software), data archiving (data bases) and related issues from an operational point of view. It is organised as a three day workshop with classroom lectures and demonstrations of sensor technology, monitoring stations and data processing software.
It is an introduction to the applied sensor system and monitoring station concept, developed within the CAWa project for the hydrometeorological services in Cetral Asia. Additionaly, data processing software and web applications for data analyses will be demonstrated.

Course concept

In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the already installed network components and software applications in Central Asia real data will be used. An other target of this course is to show options for the design of stations, which installation is planned for 2011.

The workshop will transfer knowledge and experience of the German Research Center for Geosciences and the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences to the experts of the Hydrometeorological Services and other water-related institutions in the Central Asian states. The training will enable the participants to understand the capabilities of the hydrometeorological monitoring network.

For details, please see the invitation flyer.

Application
