Special Issue : Central Asian Journal of Water Research

Innovative tools and methods in water and land resource management in Central Asia

Scope

The special issue will consider contributions presented at the International Symposium on Water and Land Resources in Central Asia organized by the Central Asia Water (CAWa) project on October 9-11, 2018 in Almaty as well as other studies on water related challenges in the target region. The special issue will focus on innovative tools and methods for the assessment and management of water and land resources in Central Asia.

Central Asia is facing big challenges with regard to the management of water resources.  In order to allow a sustainable resource management, a reliable data basis and innovative data analysis techniques are required. Unfortunately, resource management in Central Asia is frequently based on outdated data and methods developed during the Soviet time.

Nowadays, several innovative methods and data sets, such as global climate reanalysis or remote sensing data can be used to better understand water related processes in Central Asia. Such method and tools can be applied in the field of climate and water research as well as for agriculture and natural resource management.

We particularly invite studies in the field of climate and hydrological modelling, climate change impact assessment as well as land use and agricultural transition.

Specific topics of the special issue may include, but are not limited to:

  • Climate related studies using modern datasets such from global climate models
  • Hydrological studies focussing on the application of innovative methods and modern datasets (e.g. remote sensing) for the assessment of water resources in Central Asia
  • Use of remote sensing datasets in for land use and yield assessment in the region

In general, we encourage scientist and practitioners who study topics related to climate, water and agriculture in Central Asia based on state-of-the art data and methods to submit their work to this special issue.
