First CAWa Monitoring Station HyMet01 Installed near Bishkek

The first complex hydrometeorological monitoring station of the CAWa project has been installed in Baitik, around 40 km south of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). It went into test operation on December 14, 2009.

The fully automated station HyMet01 will monitor hydrometeorological parameters, such as temperature, precipitation, snow, and wind using up-to-date sensors complying with WMO standards. In addition, measurements of GPS signals will provide information about water vapor content in the atmosphere.

The data is measured continuously, collected by an embedded PC and once a day transferred via satellite-communication to the CAWa data base. After commissioning, the station may switch to real-time mode to deliver the data as soon as it is measured.

HyMet01 is fully supplied with electric power fromĀ  solar panels. No additional power is needed for the station operation, even during winter time when insolation is reduced.

The station is controlled remotely, i.e. the status of sensors and power supply may be checked from any place in the world, as well as the measuring and data transmission parameters may be set.

HyMet01 will serve as a test and training station during the CAWa project period.
