This event aimed to address the urgent challenges posed by climate change on hydrological systems and agriculture, focusing on Turkmenistan's vulnerability due to its arid climate, water scarcity, and reliance on agriculture.

The event was organized within the framework of the project "Developing a National Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan," implemented by the UNDP and Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan with the financial support of the Green Climate Fund, and Green Central Asia initiative launched by the German Foreign Office.

Lectures came from the Green Central Asia project partners from the Potsdam Institute of Climate Research (PIK), Dr Iulii Didovets, Dr Bijan Fallah, Ms Stefanie Wesch, Dr Qaisar Saddique and Dr Milena Latinović from GFZ Potsdam. UNDP international experts, Dr Robert Bierkandt and Dr Sven Willner also lectured on climate risk assessments and adaptation options.

Representative of CAWa Green Project, Dr. Milena Latinović, presented an insightful analysis of snow cover, snow water equivalent and total water storage in Turkmenistan. Her research shed light on the intricate water dynamics in the region, offering valuable data to guide future adaptation strategies.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of 32 participants from various governmental bodies, academic institutions, and organizations. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Agriculture, and other key stakeholders actively participated, emphasizing the collaborative effort needed to address climate resilience in the region.
