Региональная научно-исследовательская сеть “Вода в Центральной Азии” - CAWa

Центральная Азия на сегодняшний день сталкивается с острыми проблемами, связанными с водными ресурсами, среди которых - водный дефицит, ухудшение качества воды и неэффективное её использование. Изменение климата может еще более усугубить сложившеесю ситуацию. Эти трудности можно преодолеть только объединив усилия всех центрально-азиатских государств.

Целью проекта CAWa является оказание содействия центрально-азиатским государствам в создании научно обоснованной и достоверной региональной базы данных для разработки устойчивой стратегии управления водными ресурсами.

In Celebration of the UN International Year of Glacier Preservation 2025: First-Ever “World Day for Glaciers” in Paris

As part of the United Nations’ International Year of Glacier Preservation 2025, the inaugural World Day for Glaciers was officially celebrated at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on March 20–21, 2025.

Operational Cryosphere Monitoring using MODSNOW in Central & South Asia | Launch of IYGP 2025

2025 has been declared as the UN International Year of Glacier Preservation (IYGP). The official High-Level Launch of this important initiative will take place on January 21, 2025 at the World Meteorological Service (WMO) and online.

GeoX Central Asia Climate and Water Research Workshop

On December 11, 2024, the Central Asia Climate and Water Research Workshop took place at GFZ, Telegrafenberg, Potsdam, Germany, with financial support from the GeoX network. This one-day event brought together experts to discuss the challenges of climate change and water security in Central Asia. More than fifty participants, including researchers from Germany and Central Asia, gathered to develop sustainable and collaborative solutions for the region.

CAIAG 20th anniversary conference

On October 8–9, 2024, the Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, hosted a conference titled “Past Achievements and Future Challenges of Applied Geosciences in Central Asia” to commemorate its 20th anniversary. The event was part of the “Climate Week” initiative and the broader series, “Five Years of Action for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (2023-2027)”.

GeoX Central Asia Climate and Water Research Workshop

The one-day workshop “Central Asia Climate and Water Research”, supported by the GeoX network, aims to bring together scientists working on various Central Asian topics to foster collaboration and develop ideas for future cooperation.

The Young Scientist School 2024

The Young Scientist School (YSS), now in its second iteration, was once again organized at the TIIAME National University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. YSS took place from the 29th to the 31st of July 2024 as part of the CLIMWATER project, a collaborative effort between Uzbekistan and Germany, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany and the Agency for Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

7th Tashkent Water Security Lectures

The event, Tashkent Water Security Lectures (TWSL), took place for the 7th time on the 16th of July, 2024, at the Uzbek Embassy in Berlin. The event was titled: “Water Resources in Central Asia: Integration of Scientific Knowledge to Support Policy Dialogue and Climate Change Adaptation.”
