In the CAWa-Green Project frame, as part of a "Green Central Asia" Program, the 1st Tashkent Water Security Lectures (TWSL) took place online on the 10th and 11th of December of 2020. The TWSL was dedicated to the topic of "Water Security and Climate Change Adaptation in Central Asia". During these two days, more than 40 participants had a chance to hear experts in the field and get more familiar with the Green Central Asia Program. This event was organized jointly with the other Green Central Asia Project Implementation Team such as GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and German-Kazakh Univeristy (GKU) in Almaty.  First day talks were open with the welcome speech from Mr Peter Lange from the Federal Foreign Office in Germany, followed by Prof. Uktam Pardaevich Umurzakov and Dr. Caroline Milow. During the course of the first day, participants had a chance to hear four additional scientific talks given by partners of the Green Central Asia project. The second day was dedicated to another series of lectures related to water availability and security projections under the impact of climate change.

A full list of speakers and talks is available here, as well as recorded lectures here.

With the newly initiated TWSL, we hope to contribute to knowledge transfer and water specialists' capacity development in Central Asia. The TWSL series will continue, with the second TWSL being foreseen for the end of April 2021. The next TWSL will be announced in due time.
